Gill will be set up to show the materials and tools she uses to create her mosaics and there will be materials on hand for you to have a go and see how the process works for yourself.

There is no need to book in advance, just come along and have a chat with GIll.

Come and play with clay in this tactile workshop. Learn to make and decorate a pinch pot, the oldest and most versatile clay making method, or make an object of your own choice. We will work with airdry clay so can take your creation home with you to keep at the end of the session.

Roy Smith:

This is a from-scratch workshop where you will have the chance to work with willow charcoal to create a finished drawing. You will learn basic techniques of creating tone and line.

Roz Ivanič: 

Publishing an Art Book: A Talk and Conversation

Fields of Marks: The life and work of Milan Ivanič meshes Milan’s life story with his processes and practices as an artist, illustrated by 159 examples of his work.

The session will be about the process of writing this book: how it came into being, and the excitements, difficulties and dilemmas I experienced in writing it. In particular, there will be interactive discussion on alternative ways of writing about individual paintings and drawings. 

The main aim of the session is to give insights into what lies behind the words in the book: the decisions I made about what to include and how. 

By extension, to raise awareness of the writing processes behind other books about art and about people’s lives. 

The issues discussed in this session might also provide pointers for anyone interested in writing about their own or other artists’ work, life, and practice.

Gerald Fitzgerald: 

Creating an Oil Painting 

Gerald will be demonstrating and talking about his approach to oil painting.  Gerald says, "people think that oil painting is a slow process, but it doesn't have to be". Come and see Gerald work an oil painting from a starting point and moving towards a finished painting and see the different stages he uses.

Pauline Bates:

Introduction to dry-point

In this taster workshop session with artist Pauline Bates, you will create a mini dry point print or a bookmark. 

You will learn some of the basic technique of dry point printing. The processes you will learn can be used at home; so, come along and explore your own creative potential. 

You might want to bring along a simple sketch or object for inspiration.

Artist Ann Kretzschmar will be creating a painting using soft pastels. This will be a great opportunity to call in and see Ann working from start towards a finished painting. 

There will be the opportunity to ask questions.

Val Gedge: 

This fun family workshop is for children and is a basic introduction to weaving techniques. 

Weaving is a way to produce colourful art using assorted textiles. Weaving is a slow activity that encourages concentration and hand eye coordination. Thus, developing neural pathways and strengthening small muscles in the fingers essential for writing. 

The child will create their own pattern encouraging self-expression and creativity. Being able to choose their own colours and textures helps to boost confidence.
